AI question paper generator for CBSE, ICSE and state board teachers
Last updated: 23 October 2026
A question paper generator saves you the blank-page problem: you say what kind of paper you need, and it drafts the questions. This is exactly what Ank’s generator does, what it leaves to you, and the checks worth making before you print.
The short version
- You pick the board, class, subject, total marks, and how many MCQ, short and long questions you want. Ank drafts the paper.
- You can edit every question and every MCQ option, save the paper, and export it as a PDF to share or email.
- Marks always add up to the total you set, spread over the question types in roughly a 1 : 2 : 4 ratio, in whole marks.
- Ank is a mobile app in private beta. It is not a website you can try in a browser.
What you choose
Ank asks for these inputs and writes the paper from them:
| Input | Options |
|---|---|
| Board | CBSE, ICSE, IB, State Board, Cambridge, Raj Board |
| Class | 6 to 12 |
| Subject | Mathematics, Science, English, Social Science, Computer |
| Total marks | Any number you set, for example 20, 40 or 50 |
| Questions | How many MCQs, short answers and long answers (the app starts at 5, 4 and 2) |
The result is a three-section paper: objective questions with four options, short-answer questions, and long-answer questions. Ank asks the AI for wording and difficulty that suit the class and board you chose.
How the marks are spread
Ank sets the marks so the paper adds up to exactly the total you enter. It aims for a ratio of 1 : 2 : 4 between an MCQ, a short answer and a long answer, in whole marks, and it never lets the marks fall as the paper moves from MCQs to short answers to long answers.
With the starting counts (5 MCQs, 4 short, 2 long) and a total of 50, that gives 2 marks per MCQ, 5 per short answer and 10 per long answer. For a total of 40 it gives 2, 4 and 7, which also adds up to exactly 40.
Some totals cannot be split evenly in that ratio. For 30 marks with the same counts, the MCQs get 1 mark each, the short answers 3, and the two long answers 6 and 7. When that happens, the last section carries the difference, so a few of its questions are worth one mark more than the others.
Your total must be at least the number of questions, because every question needs at least one mark. If it is not, Ank asks you to raise the total or reduce the number of questions.
What to check before you print
The questions are written by AI, so treat the draft the way you would treat a colleague’s first attempt.
- Read every question. Look for vague wording, a repeated topic, or a wrong answer option. If a question reads like a template, with options labelled “Option A” to “Option D”, replace it.
- Check the coverage against what you have taught. Ank does not take a chapter list, so it cannot promise the paper matches your syllabus for this term.
- Check the paper design if you need to match your board’s. Ank does not apply an official board blueprint, such as marks per section or internal choice. If your school expects that format, compare against it.
- Check the marks per question. Ank picks them from the 1 : 2 : 4 ratio. If you want a different split, change the number of questions of each type and generate the paper again.
Editing, saving and exporting
- Edit the text of any question, and any MCQ option, directly on the screen before you finalise the paper.
- Save the paper to your history and open it again later.
- Export it as a PDF. You can share the file, email it from the app, or print it from there.
What it does not do yet
- No chapter or topic selection. You choose board, class and subject, not the chapters.
- No official board blueprint. You choose the question counts; Ank does not follow a board’s own paper pattern.
- No link to marking yet. A paper you generate is not carried into marking. When you mark a class, you photograph or upload the paper, including one you made in Ank, and confirm it there.
